Whether you have an open radical nephrectomy, laparoscopic nephrectomy, minimally invasive robotic nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, or a cryoablation of the kidney (freezing), your surgeon’s expertise and experience will only help make sure your renal cell carcinoma will be removed or destroyed completely.

Nephrectomy experience is what our Miami urology center has on a world class level. You have been introduced to Dr Fernando J Bianco the Chief of Robotic Surgery who specializes in not only laparoscopic nephrectomy but he has the experience in the newer procedure to remove just the area around the kidney tumor called a partial nephrectomy when the kidney mass is small. 

Our world class urology team is lead by Dr Mitchell C Benson. Dr Benson is the Chairman of the Department of Urology and Urologist-in-Chief at Columbia University Medical Center. Throughout his career he has specialized in cancer of the kidney, prostate and bladder along with reconstructive surgery. His urology team is rated in the top five urological departments in the nation. Dr Benson has now assembled another world class urology department here at Mount Sinai Medical Center on Miami Beach.

Dr Aaron E Katz has now joined our Ivy League Miami urology center. Dr Katz has lead the way on several fronts as a urologist with a thriving  practice in New York City and who has specialized in urologic oncology he has trained over 100 doctors throughout the US and Europe in cryotherapy of the kidney and prostate. The doctors he has trained have gone on and trained many more doctors. Hundreds of urologists throughout the world have been trained in the cryoablation techniques of Dr Katz. The cryoablation of the kidney freezes just the area around the kidney mass or kidney tumor similar to the partial nephrectomy rational, which is, to leave the rest of the kidney intact.

Nephrectomy experience needs to start somewhere and Dr. Alan Nieder as the leader of our fellowship program which is part of Mount Sinai’s program as a teaching hospital gives many of our future urologists their first nephrectomy experience in the operating room. Dr Nieder who has been here practicing in Miami and Mount Sinai for the last five years and his skills as an oncology urologist are the reason the Columbia University Division of Urology have brought him to the best Florida urology center.
